Official Ranking and New Male Teams of Premier Padel

The best circuit in the world will kick off with new player partnerships and a ranking in which Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello will not start as number ones.

Green light for the launch of a new era in professional padel with the new circuit designed by the International Padel Federation (FIP) and Qatar Sports Investments (QSI). Once the official Premier Padel calendar for 2024 has been announced, we review the new teams that will face each other on the courts and a men’s ranking full of surprises.

How the ranking works

For this season, the FIP and QSI have decided to structure the ranking based on the results of 24 tournaments from previous seasons. Special importance is given to Premier Padel and FIP Tour events, with the results of World Padel Tour, which was the reference circuit for world padel from 2013 to 2023, taking a back seat.

Thus, the position from which each team will start in Premier Padel depends on the total sum of the points each player has obtained in up to 24 tournaments played in 2022 and 2023, distributed as follows:

  • The best results obtained in 21 tournaments of Premier Padel and FIP Tour.
  • The three best results achieved in World Padel Tour or FIP Tour tournaments that have been played since September 2023.

The season will start on February 26 in Riyadh, and with it the ‘Race’, a classification that counts the results of each 2024 tournament live. For example: if Franco Stupaczuk and Martín Di Nenno win the first tournament of the season, they will be placed as number ones in the ‘Race’, where all duos start with zero points.

On the other hand, the defense of the 2023 ranking will be carried out as follows: The total points of the 2023 ranking for each player will be divided by 50 weeks, subtracting the same amount of points to each player weekly from January 15, 2024, until the end of the sports season on December 22, 2024. This is why, even though there are teams that start the season better than others, they will not be above in the official ranking since it also takes into account the points from 2023.

Men’s Teams Ranking of Premier Padel

Adding up the total scores of the players that make up each duo, this is the initial ranking for 2024:

1. Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón, back at the top

Those who were number ones of the World Padel Tour from the beginning of 2020 until May 2023, will once again lead the ranking of the most relevant circuit in the global scene with 24,470 points.

Their performance in Premier Padel over the past two seasons, in which they accumulated a total of five titles, has placed them ahead of Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello, who managed to end their dominance in the World Padel Tour after one of the most exciting matches in history.

2. Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello, aiming for another record year

Coello and Tapia lifted 14 titles in total throughout 2023. | Image: Premier Padel.

The Spanish-Argentine duo is close to the number one spot with 22,220 points thanks to their spectacular 2023, in which they won four of the six Premier Padel titles in play and went on a 46-match unbeaten streak in the World Padel Tour.

Even though Coello holds the solo number one spot in the player rankings with 11,933 points, the fittest team of 2023 will have to fight again to reclaim the crown since Agustín Tapia did not manage to win any Premier Padel title in 2022, when he partnered with Sanyo Gutiérrez.

3. The Superpibes, limitless on the 20×10

Franco Stupaczuk and Martín Di Nenno will act as the number three duo in the ranking with 20,425 points after accumulating four Premier Padel titles between them. In 2022, the player from Chaco won two alongside Pablo Lima, while Di Nenno added one with Paquito Navarro. After joining as a pair last season, they lifted the first Major of the season in Qatar and lost the finals in Milan and Mendoza against Tapia/Coello and Galán/Lebrón, respectively.

This year, they are expected to once again display the game that made them compete for the number one spot of the World Padel Tour until the penultimate tournament of last season.

4. Paquito Navarro and Sanyo Gutiérrez, magic and character to delight the audience

Sanyo and Paquito team up again seven years later with the goal of getting closer to the number one spot.

The two legends of the world padel start as the fourth team in the table with 13,745 points. The good performance of Paquito Navarro since the beginning of Premier Padel (one title and five finals) has placed this new duo among the top of the ranking, as Sanyo Gutiérrez has only managed to reach one final, so his contribution in terms of scoring has been lesser.

The player from Seville and the one from San Luís will show their version 2.0 after competing together in 2016 and 2017. They face the challenge of unleashing their magic and ensuring that their strong character does not play against them on the court. All this with the goal of fighting for the number one spot against opponents known for their physicality and aerial game.

5. Momo González and Fede Chingotto, defense as the main weapon

The player from Málaga and the ‘Mouse’ from Olavarría sneak into the top five with 12,551 points. After a season in which Momo mostly played on the drive side alongside Javi Garrido and Chingotto achieved three Premier Padel finals and one World Padel Tour Master Final title, they unite as a duo to make defense their best attack.

From the top 6 to 10, teams promising to make an impact

Fernando Belasteguín and Lucho Capra will compete together in the season that will mark the retirement of the ‘Boss’. With 10,745 points, they are positioned as the sixth duo. This union is explained by the tactical aspect, as Bela recently explained he needed to team up with a left-handed player to prevent opponents from easily gaining the net with lobs directed at the left shoulder of the drive player.

In the top seven are Juan Tello and Álex Ruiz with 9,315 points. The ‘Cat’ and ‘Captain America’ will enter the scene after an irregular 2023 in which their best Premier Padel result was a semifinal achieved at the Mendoza P1.

Víctor Ruiz and Lucas Bergamini will continue together after an outstanding 2023 in which they proved ready to climb the rankings. The Spanish-Brazilian duo starts in eighth position with 6,340 points and faces the challenge of continuing the gameplay that led them in 2022 to compete in the Milan P1 final and last year to eliminate Tapia and Coello in the World Padel Tour.

Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, two of the players that are likely to make an impact in the circuit, will continue together as the ninth team of Premier Padel with 6,065 points. Despite rumors linking Sanz to players like Galán, Paquito, or Bela, the Spanish duo will continue fighting to reach the final rounds of each tournament through their characteristic electric gameplay.

The top ten is rounded out by Javi Garrido and Mike Yanguas with 5,731 points forming a new duo that hopes to fulfill the great expectations generated by their youth, potential, and aerial game.
